Notes on Becoming a Good Leader

  • A good leader has the qualities he expects of his members. If you want your members to be kind, respectful, and understanding than you had better fit that description as well other wise you will lose the respect of your members.
  • Show the members that you are one of them not over them. It doesn't matter that you are making all the major decisions, you members just want to know you. Make friends with your members, participate in events you hold for them, talk with them. Members will react better to a leader who walks with them than one who looks down on them. I doubt some of my best members would be here today if I tried to look down on them. For me it isn't just an act it is the way I feel.
  • Earn your members' respect instead of demanding it. People do not want to join a clan of a self-proclaimed master. Show them that you deserve their respect and they will stay loyal to you no matter what.
  • Meet your members needs. Work towards satisfying your members and the clan rather than your own needs first. Members will like you more if you put them ahead of yourself and you can most likely expect the same from them as a result.
  • Most importantly have fun! That is what this is all about. Many people feel that as a leader of a clan they can't enjoy themselves they have to be busy with their responsibilities instead. That is far from the truth. I couldn't imagine myself as just a member of some clan. I get to see my hard work come to life and have tons of fun with all the new friends I make.
  • Don't give up. My clan has gone through lots of bad times as well as the good. As long as you don't give up you can expect your clan to succeed. Stick with it no matter what happens.
Well, after many years as a leader these are some of the things I have learned. I hope they help you guys to develop yourselves to better serve your clan.
